Christmas Mini Sessions are one of my favourite times of the year! Each session captures the magic of the season — but choosing the right outfit can make a huge difference in how your photos turn out. Here are my top tips to help you pick the perfect outfit for your Christmas Mini Session this year.
1. Coordinate with the Set, Not Against It
This year’s Christmas setup features a classic red, green, and white theme with candy cane accents. To complement this look, choose outfits in neutral or warm tones — think cream, beige, soft browns, or even subtle plaids. Avoid bright greens or bold patterns that might clash with the festive background. Instead, let your outfits enhance the scene while keeping the focus on your family and your little one’s expressions.

2. Classic Pyjamas Always Look Adorable Matching family pyjamas or cosy Christmas PJs for the children are always a hit!
White or cream pyjamas with red accents work beautifully with this year’s setup. They create a timeless look and fit perfectly with the warm, homely Christmas feel. If you prefer a dressier style, soft knit jumpers or dresses in muted red, oatmeal, or forest green tones also photograph beautifully.
3. Add Texture for Depth Textures like knits, flannel, and velvet photograph wonderfully under studio lighting. They add warmth and depth to your images without being distracting. Avoid logos — they can draw attention away from the festive atmosphere.

4. Keep Comfort in Mind For little ones, comfort is key. Choose outfits that allow them to move freely and feel cosy. Babies look adorable in soft cotton pyjamas or simple rompers, while toddlers love snuggly jumpers or onesies. If your child feels comfortable, you’ll get those natural smiles and giggles that make the best photos!
5. Don’t Forget the Details Small touches make all the difference — think festive socks, little hair bows, or a cute Christmas hat for one or two shots. But try not to over-accessorise — simplicity always photographs best.
6. A Quick Checklist Before Your Session
Outfits clean, ironed, and ready the night before
Spare outfit for babies or toddlers (just in case!)
Bring a small brush or comb for quick touch-ups
Final Tip: Keep It Simple and Joyful
7.Arrive on Time and Ready Dressed
Christmas Mini Sessions are short and sweet — designed to capture as many beautiful moments as possible in a limited time slot. To make the most of your session, please arrive on time and ready dressed. Changing outfits once you arrive can eat into your shooting time, especially with little ones who may take a few minutes to warm up to the camera. Being ready to start means we can jump straight into creating those magical festive portraits from the moment you step in. A quick brush of hair, a tidy-up of little details, and you’re all set!
Choose outfits that make you feel relaxed and festive, and I’ll take care of the rest. I can’t wait to capture your Christmas memories this year!
